[She's not trying to form any sort of plan, might not necessarily be following on Eren's potential thought process there, but she obeys anyway. Unsure if he's seeing if that might help any with the figure possibly disappearing or because there's something else he's about to do that he doesn't want her to see.
Not that her closing her eyes seems to make any difference. The figure doesn't stop or disappear. It was probably worth a try though?]
[ at least it’s easier to do this: take sakura and run. she’s small, tiny even, and perfect for him to scoop up and dash faster than he would have with her on the ground. he’d have to find somewhere to put her, he doubts the woman would stop if all the other fog monsters chased their targets. with one arm holding her pretty easily, his other keeps his gun in hand. he’s ready. ]
[Not that it might be easy to try and drown out whatever the noise might be, if it is that loud, but. Still, at least she is warned? Sakura shifts easily in instinctively accommodating him picking her up, though perhaps not without a small squeak of surprise over it since she wasn't necessarily expecting it. They are chased though, and she still hears the footsteps of the figure behind them when Eren starts moving again.]
[ he has to get a good distance away, first— and if the mother is just following them and nothing else, it shouldn't be too hard to create that gap. two hands is the correct form, so he'll need those, finally placing sakura on a bench he nearly jogs right past. ]
Just cover your ears.
[ he has him firearm out now, holding it correctly, finger close to the trigger, safety off— now he just waits for her to pop up again. ]
[Even covering her ears with her hands, her palms, wouldn't entirely lessen the sound, wouldn't drown it out entirely if and when he might actually fire the weapon. But it doesn't take long, the figure not far off when she gives chase after them, or more specifically, after Sakura.
But Sakura simply does as he says, raising her hands to hold them to her ears and closing her eyes on top of that. Because she doesn't want to have to see this.]
[ she’s prepared for any “loud noises”, too. now, eren’s forté isn’t really shooting, and he’s not keen on wasting bullets while he’s still out here, even when he had extra magazines. that’d just be beyond stupid, on his part. his instructors would skin him alive.
so, he does wait a little for when the woman rolls in closer with the fog. he’s already in position once her figure approaches, once he can see her. carefully, he aims, takes note of the wind, if any, watches for his own movements— it was hard to stay completely still while aiming, but he can do better when he holds his breath.
she’s even closer now, and he honed in with both eyes, aims, waits for targets to align, before he pulls, sounding out a single but cracking pop. like thunder. he aims for vitals, first to the chest, right for the heart. ]
[Perhaps if this really were what it was with Sakura's memories, of the Illusion card, the bullets might not have worked to harm it. But it seems a little different in this case. Because when he aims and the bullet hits, she goes down. Sakura's eyes are closed, but she still hears the gun go off. Just the once. But maybe that's all that is needed.
She's still not sure if it's over, so she asks, tentatively, unsure on removing her hands from her ears or opening her eyes.]
Is....is it over? You....? [Shot her 'mother'? Sakura isn't sure what to feel about that. Guilt? Confusion? Anger? Overwhelmed at the situation in general, probably.]
[ and she’s down for the count. honestly, this was the easier of the fog he’s seen, it terms of takedown— emotional whiplash, on the other hand, it might have to be borderline the worst. shooting a kid’s not-mother isn’t something he had planned not took pleasure in doing; it was necessary. he waits to watch for any extra sign of movement from the fallen figure, and with the fog seeming to roll away with her desintegration— he returns the gun to its holster and offers him her hand. ]
See the fog? [ it’s rolling back. it’s leaving. ] Who knows what it could’ve done if it got to you.
[ he kneels, to be more face to face with her. ] That wasn’t your mom.
[She peeks through her hands, still hesitant, not wanting to see the figure, but Sakura does then reach for his offered hand, noting the way the fog seems to be dispersing now. Because the figure was dealt with?]
....I know she died. I just...part of me hoped...
[That it was real, somehow. That they could be a family again, with at least one of their parents. Unfortunately, this too was some trick.]
[What had she hoped for? A hug? The chance to tell her mother she loved her and actually remember it? Sakura isn't sure exactly. But either way, it's not going to happen and never was going to. And she isn't sure how to feel about that. She'd been secure in accepting that for years already, but this....this didn't help.]

If you hear any loud noises, it’s fine.

[ that shouldn’t be a reason to stop hoping for anything, but. there are times and places for it. there are situations for it. ]
You just need to know what you’re hoping for.
