[ taking risks are necessary for any sort of change. he filleted that religiously. without speaking up anymore, eren gives a silent, militarial (international) signal for “ok”, and let’s the car silently flicker its lights for attention. any minute now. ]
[I apologize for Eren's car. Personally. Me as in Ty, if only because the lights flicker and there seems to be nothing before there's a slam from the back and plows right into the vehicle, the dog barking wildly and attempting to break into the car.
And with that John's...changing his course of action and immediately dodging out of the car. Fighting in a car park? Fighting in a car park. He takes off running with the dog flying in pursuit, but at least he can distract him for a good ten minutes.]
[ rip, eren’s car. if he wasn’t so focused, he’d scream a little inside. a lot. aaron paul is his actual past life.
at least, they’re on the run. eren tails but keeps hidden, watching the dog’s trajectory and movements, making sure john’s got enough space between them to make this work, all while looking for a place and time he could hit and hit hard. that arm, too, that arm with the sword had to go, or at least become immobile.
he’s got a few things in mind. there’s a minute where john might probably run past where he’s crouched, giving him the needed signal to intercept. he’s only got one shot, so he takes this one with a charge. yes, a charge. a reckless looking charge straight toward the dog and plowing forth a left straight, to force it to expose its right—
and just as the sword’s holding arm seems to be up at just the right angle, eren clinches onto it tightly, arms grappling and locking it upwards against the dog’s face, hugging against the neck. it can’t swing down like this, and its own arm protects eren from any possible bites. with a roar that eren feels deep inside him, he swings his leg under the dog’s, thrusts his body down at full strength and sends them both crashing into concrete and into something one would see quite a bit in mma, in jui jutsu, in military. that’s an arm triangle choke, complete with a takedown.
and that’s where he carries it on, twisting into a side hold while he’s even hooked a wing along with the dog’s thin arm. its probably lost the sword already, and would have to fight a deadly choke that’s locked in like a vice. it’s hard to get out of without technique. this one was a take down made for enemies stronger than the user, and eren vocalizes angrily with the thrashing they’re probably doing to pin him for as long as he can. ]
[He loops back as soon as Eren slams the dog down to the ground in what is, quite frankly, a very impressive technique and with Bec Noir disarmed John sweeps up the sword. Since he's in place, snarling and snapping at both Eren and John, John's quick to step in and thrust the sword back into the open wound where it belongs.
There's a howl suddenly followed by some furious barking and Bec seemingly disintegrates, leaving both John and Eren alone in the car garage without any sign of the dog. The fog even seems to be letting up from where its creeped into the garage.]
...nice moves. [He's still pretty startled, but whoa.]
[ eren holds on even while the beast howls, all until it degenerates in his hold until there’s nothing else to choke. lifting himself onto his knees to watch the dog go with the fog, he finally pushes onto his feet. he’s sweating, it’s certainly harder to hold someone down when they’re struggling, but it still worked. he breathes, a sigh of relief, his attention lifting to john. ]
My sister’s. Get to train that everyday, too.
[ air force. he flexes his arms— while he managed, there was still a strain to them that you’d only get in a situation like that. on a training mat, you only squeezed until your partner tapped out. it was never all the way. ]
But I never . . .
[ he’s done this constantly on a training mat. but something about this particular moment that just . . . reminds him of something else entirely. he doesn’t hallucinate, he doesn’t mix reality with memory, this time he simply remembers. a massive, armored thing swinging for him, and he took him down in a blur so quick he could hardly make out the field of miniature trees they fought in, poking out from the ground and beyond the horizon as they fell. it was the arm triangle choke, finished with a leg sweep.
his body was different, then. he felt hot, so hot that at the same time it felt like it burned, like he was on fire, he took it, he was used to it. he was completely surrounded by heat and something else, like being covered, humid. at the same time, he still saw through normal eyes. he felt like he was suspended in a conscious dream. he also thought annie. he felt himself raw. it was strange. but it was also normal.
he doesn’t finish, but wide eyes speak of his surprise. because that’s no longer true. he did have to forcefully use it, once. ]
[By now, John's starting to get used to when other people react to receiving certain triggers or memories. Eren isn't the first one John's been with when it's happened and so when he trails off he waits patiently while he subconsciously wipes his hands on his jeans, like he's scraping away the appearance of the fog. When Eren doesn't continue, he pipes up again.]
...used it like that? [It's a gentle guesstimate, but he figures it'll help.]
[ thanks for the kickstart, john. he doesn’t quite give a nod, but his shoulders so hitch up. he can see his car in the distance, oh boy. still silently blinking away. hopefully they’ll cover this after the axe incident. ]
Never against someone, but— [ he bites his body. he didn’t feel. that hot stuff. was that really how spiked up adrenaline felt like? an out of body but not experience? weird, because he didn’t really feel it when he was rushing here, too. at a winged dog with a sword. ] Guess I have,
[He settles for shaking his head because he's had his share of weird stuff happen so:]
Don't think about it so much right now. Whatever it was, it might make more sense later. But it definitely saved us both so thanks. I owe you one. [There's another glance around the garage.] We should get out of here soon.
[ that’s . . . right, he supposes, as weird as it was. he’ll have to pick and mull over it some other time— they we’re still out in the open, and his car.
he stares at his car for a few moments. could he drive that without getting in trouble . . . is that a street hazard now . . . well, back to john, he shakes his head. it was an occupational hazard, not a favor. plus, there’s the want in wanting to do it. his sense of purpose rings it’s highest at times like these, but . . .
ever since running into his own foggy memory, there’s been a hole. ]
I told you we were getting out alive— I’ll take us back. [ he gestures for. his car. ] You okay?
[There's a wince when he looks at the dented portions of Eren's car, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.]
I know. But still. And yeah, I'm fine. [A pause.] Jack won't be back for a while, I think, if at all. Uh. I'm also really sorry about your car? I can see if maybe my insurance can cover it but I am not sure if that would work since "a giant monster dog that was after me ruined everything" is not really a normal circumstance.
[ he just— waves that off, in a way that clearly states don’t worry about it. he’s got cash, he’s got parents and a fretting mother who’d gladly help, his own insurance . . . and a pretty good mechanic. ]
That’s the second time since last month, anyway. I’ll figure it out.
[ at least it looks. drivable! temporarily. maybe he really should start investing in something else in the mean time. emergency motorcycles. ]
The dog. I am pretty sure his name is Jack. [And he's pretty sure Jack's a dick, but he's going to ignore that.] Don't worry about it. I'll explain everything later if you want. We should get going.
[ before any fog monsters come back. he’s had his share of that just a few days ago. he’ll gesture for the passenger door for john to hop in, and while he’s at it. ]
I wouldn’t have had it if it weren’t for you, either. Thanks for the chance.
[He opens the door, but he pauses to give Eren another grateful little smile.]
It's the only way all of us are going to get through this weird shit, isn't it? Taking chances on each other. I'll keep an eye on the road while you drive.
[And with that into the car he goes and they should be able to drive back out into the fog, but at least the dog won't follow them again.]
