[You know when you put it that way, it's a good thing. A definite good thing.

There's a peace underneath the water that the surface doesn't know. Sounds are muffled, and everything seems much more isolated. With how Elliot was now, he found it comforting. Not even the cold water temperatures bother him anymore. He was at home here.

He's happy to keep the kiss going as long as possible, both to make sure Eren has enough time to change and to simply enjoy the moment. It's only when it's been awhile and Eren is widening the kiss instead of trying hard to conserve air, does it become clear. He lifts his hand to check the sides of Eren's neck, and sure enough, there was a healthy set of gills there.

Finally he pulls away from the kiss, unwrapping his tail from Eren's so he can pull back and get a good look at him. The changes were well underway, and Eren looked incredible. It was better than Elliot had hoped for.

He reaches for Eren's hand once more, intent on leading him deeper into the ocean. If Eren could breathe underwater now, there was no point in sticking to the shallows. Better to swim out, and experience the feeling of freedom that comes with the open ocean. Together.]

eren shouldn’t feel the liberty he does when he finally opens his eyes to see elliot, and behind him, an endless stretch of ocean. the ocean ends eventually, no matter to which corner you swim to. eren knows full well that on the other side of the ocean, there was no freedom. on the other side of the ocean was the same, troubled world you still lived in. the world above was the same everywhere you went, because humanity was the same.

but what about under it all? where it was quiet, where it went untouched and unconfined.

it wasn’t true, but infection aids eren to feed the lie: down here, there was far less responsibility. down here was easier. down here was where he could truly be free.

he takes elliot’s hand easily, and as quick as second nature, his new tail flicks to begin launching him forward. he accepts. he desires. he goes with him, and there is where they probably explore all night. ]
