[ cards are always first! so when he flips it open— guh. he already had a smile on, but now it just turns into a sheepish sort of melt. he doesn’t expect gifts, so it’s always a surprise to him, every time . . . and the fact that she remembers titan is what pulls at his heart most. he’s grinning, and . . . ! ]

Ann . . . [ he laughs, holding the card between his fingers along with the chew toy in one hand and his gifts in the other, setting the candy jar on the table after a look into it before he looks at the tie. he hangs his head. ]

I don’t even know what to say. [ it’s so simple, but— he can feel the care in the words and the choices. ] Thanks for everything— for even considering me all those things. [ oh— he jiggles the chew toy! ] Titan, too.

[ he's so touched--she can tell--and it only gets her to grin wider. she's glad he likes his christmas gifts! it took her a while to pick out but it was worth it for his reaction. ]

Why wouldn't I? You're seriously great, Eren. You and Titan.

[ and she meant it when she said he's one of the greatest friends she's ever had. ]

[ aaAAANNNNNNN. eren can’t help but to grin and hold his cup up. it’s coffee, but, whatever!!! a toast!! ]

Only to great people.

[ and by that he means you, you’re great. his phone screen lights up, and he gives it a brief little glance down before offering his cup to hers. just an email, but what a cute background picture. ]

[ friends for life. she takes a sip of her coffee, but gets curious by the sudden flash of light--oh, it's just eren's phone--wait.

Ooooh! Who's that on your wallpaper, Eren?

[ he might’ve choked a little on his coffee there, but very, very briefly. once that’s all down his throat, his cheeks sting, giving a little look between them and looking— let’s say pleasantly flustered! ]

It’s, ah, [ the one way to make eren look shy: probably this. but he does eventually slide his phone in a way for ann to see it better, a photo of him in formal air force uniform and his partner, short cut ginger hair and green eyes, in a suit, behind them the fancy lights of an orchestra gala he took him just last month. ] Boyfriend.

[ he’s red, have you ever seen eren red? ]

[ he's red, he's sheepish, and ann knows that eren is In Love??? oh my god??? ]

Why didn't you tell me earlier?! Oh my gosh, Eren!

[ after the initial shock though, she's grinning at him, and then grabbing his hands. ]

Congrats! I'm so happy for you!

[ aNn PLeASE. not that he’s upset with it, just sheepishly ducking his head and grinning like a nerd. ]

Th–thanks, Ann. [ there’s a slight apologetic quirk of his lips, but he’s alright with this hand holding. he can feel ann radiating, oh my god. ] I never got a chance to say it before. Lots of Retrospec stuff happened in between, but.

[ shoulder raise!! ]

Three months, now. I knew him years before.

[ look what were you expecting eren, it's ann ]

What?! Three months?!

[ she sounds angry, but she's just eager. ]

You gotta tell me everything! How did you guys meet? Who asked who? Go on!

[ ann eren’s just!!!! his arms shoot out to her and a quiet shhh comes from a sheepish grin. he’s almost laughing. ann is a treasure. ]

Okay, okay! [ he will supply the deets AS SOON AS THEY’re quiet!!! now, sharp inhale!! ] I was at a military youth camp for the summer, and— he was there, too. After that we kept in touch, him in New York and me in Recollé. For four years? [ ann, he’s smiling, ann. ] We’d meet up a lot, and then . . . He moved here, for college.

I didn’t notice how much I actually liked him until he was here. And when I finally took him out to tell him, he confessed too. The whole damn time we knew each other.

[ THAT’S FOUR YEARS WORTH OF CRUSHING and eren didn’t even realize his own feelings until he was very right in front of him. ]

And that’s how I’m with Elliot.
