[ Eren, on the other hand, rolls up with the glory car two, borderlining three minutes afterwards in a speedy and abrupt stop when he curves into a free parking space. Fort McCoy allowed for those out hours after duties as long as curfew was met, and he's grateful. Throwing the door shut and meeting Dave halfway, he waves back— his puffy dark hair gone and trimmed down to the scalp, uniform and boots. He's close to being the airman he always blabbers about.

[ Elliot was over at Eren's for a date. Or rather more, to watch that show that Eren really likes. He had come over in the afternoon, figuring he'd have time to watch a few episodes and get home before the fog rolled in.
Throughout the date, Elliot was ... quieter than usual. He still smiled, still laughed easily, and made no sign he was upset at Eren. He even seemed to enjoy the show (even if he had to cover his eyes at several points). But there was an air of tiredness about him, he sometimes had far-off expressions as his mind wandered to other unpleasant things, and whenever he cuddled up to Eren? He trembled a little more and clung a little tighter. The nightmares, the things in the fog...they were starting to take their toll on him.

[ there weren’t many nightmares that affected eren as much as the one he had a few nights ago, with the one and only. he’s glad to have elliot over, really glad, and he makes a valiant effort to make the promised marathoning as good as he said it was. mom left apple strudel. there were snacks and drinks just for them. he’d smile back when he’d earn smiles, attempts to take their attention to other things to distract . . . himself, mostly, but it doesn’t change a fact: neither elliot nor eren are good at hiding things.

[It takes about 20 minutes for Elliot to secure a Lyft and get over there. He's nervous doing it, he's never really been so bold to just invite himself over somewhere. But Eren's done it plenty of times to him, and he knows Eren would try to play himself off as okay when he wasn't.
Besides, he was pretty sure Eren was not getting the point of his words at all over text. In person? It was...better for these sorts of things.

[ Matt knows a lot more about his neighbors and their activities than they do about his. He grounds himself where he is to keep from getting flooded with too much information at once from his senses but as he grows more and more used to them, now helped with a vacation from concern over taste, his field of stability "opened up" if you will. Then there's the outside information, typically noise that sink in anyway. Long story short, Matt's senses make it easy for him to locate Mary in the apartment or Eren in his.
Passing down the hall near Eren's apartment he can't help noticing that the young man's breath is muffled like he's covering his mouth or has something in it. No big deal except he swears he heard a grunt or something like he was just hurt. He can't be sure with the wall between them but he swears that Eren is hunched over his arm or hand. Is he... biting himself? Why would he do that? Is he trying to hurt himself? He doesn't sound upset, just uncomfortable.
Matt stops in front of Eren's door and hesitates. Hey Eren I just listened to the noises you were making and the way the sound in your apartment bounces off of you. Seems to me like you were biting yourself! Nosy. Normally he isn't this nosy. These damn senses make it impossible not to pick up on things. He knocks on the door. He'll make sure Eren is okay at least. ]

[ if he can’t trigger any powers this way, well— at least he can try and trigger memories in the comfort of his own home. even after elliot’s magic food was eaten, he was healing up pretty fast. he doesn’t bite hard enough to trigger anything, or bleed all over himself, he’s more going through the motions (and getting awfully used to it). one more time, he looks at his other hand for a spot that wasn’t bitten, looking down and taking in a focused breath. matt could hear it, as low and quiet as he speaks. ]

[ eren wasn’t waiting for the day the sky would be taken from them. a long time ago, it was his horizon line. it was his freedom, his birthright— and to wake up with a cage so massive felt so increasingly tight against him. it was suffocating to look at. it was frustrating to admit. this is for your own good, they say. it’s to keep the storm from hitting too hard.
that’s what it feels like, but there’s a part of eren that can’t help but feel betrayed. he’s been trying to understand them this whole time. he’s been trying, and supporting something that had to be true, or else what were they supposed to believe in?
