[ and while he’s in his pictures— right, this one. he sends the selfie he and dave took in front of the sky lights. ]

None of it! I just saw an opportunity.

[And then he looks surprised when he gets sent a selfie of him and Dave]

Awww you two look great. I didn't know you took a selfie like that too.

[ a playful opportunist is muttered for a bit, but he’s still smiling. ]

We really need to group up again for TGIF’s. Too?

[ he wants to see . . . let him see . . . ]

I agree. It could be a celebration after this is over!

[ man— how cute. him and john over there while he and dave were here. he gives a fond sigh through the nose and saves it instantly.

It’d be cool if we could all go on a trip somewhere. Except together and less monster magic.

[ Just seeing that reaction from Eren makes sending the photo worth it. ]

That would be really cool. Think next time they'll send us to a resort?

If it’s having problems. [ not that he is complaining about giving the world a helping hand to not, you know, die, but. they’ll never send them to a resort. ]

Heh, you're probably right. [No way they are gonna get sent on vacation.]

Maybe not a resort resort, I don't need a tourist trap. But somewhere relaxing and some sights to see! Oh, and access to electricity and indoor plumbing. That's a must.

[He's willing to rough it for a mission, but for fun? Nooo way]

[ eren smiles, wanting to— grab him right now. and do things. winter was his favorite. ]

Snowboarding and a resort lodge, how’s that sound? With a fire, and covers, and a private room—

[Oh no. Eren's being really cute. ]

Hehe, that sounds really nice. [And while they're fantasizing] Oh, maybe a hot springs too? I always wanted to try one.

Are the hot springs private?

[ oh— strudel. eren starts rubbing the lower half of his face, looking away as the flutters come. he didn’t. want to be reminded but also grateful that he was. that’s not something he wants. to. share. this is frustrating. ]

[He can't help it, he laughs a little. He does get it, even if he's working hard to maintain self control]

And that vacation idea sounds great, public or private hot springs.

[ there shall be no sinning today, as much as they miss each other. man, eren misses being close to those laughs, and the fruity smell of his hair. the laugh and words after are at least enough to get him to smile sheepishly, the rest of his thoughts bringing up a grin. right. no thinking. abstinence. he holds a pinky up. ]

Then we can shake on it?

[Elliot gives a bright grin, holding up his pinky]

Yeah! It's a deal!

[ if he had his pinky now, he’d hook at it, but for the moment eren will have to settle for hooking at air. ]

I can’t wait. [ eren gives a brief look backwards, before sighing, eyes already softening into a melt all over again while he just. looks elliot over. ] Rather stay here with you, [ his smile seeming a bit melancholy, but— ] but we’re gonna pick up soon.

Awww. [For a moment, there's a look of disappointment on his face, before he returns his smile with bit of melancholy] It's okay, we'll talk again soon.

Thanks for calling. It's been really nice seeing you.

[ god that smile, no!!!!!!! he doesn’t want to leave!! but as much as his heart pulls, duty calls. his expression is the same, but he raises more resolution to it, firmly. ]

Promise we’ll get this done. The more focused we are, the faster we’ll get it done. [ and is that— the fastest wink alive? it is, and it wants a greater smile from elliot before he goes. ] The faster we’ll see each other.

[He takes a little small breath in. No, he doesn't want to leave either, but he's not gonna stop Eren from doing his duty. It was one of the benefits of growing up in a military family. Even if you miss them a lot, you grow used to the concept of being apart for awhile to complete a job.

So that wink will work, and he'll do his best to do a brighter smile.]

R-Right. I'll be sure to work hard on my end too. [So I can see you again]

[ there it is. eren feels ease in actually leaving when he catches the smile and holds on tight to it. with the camp behind him bustling to move out, the thumbs at the screen and offers one more loving smirk of his own. ]

Me too, Elliot. [ how much just didn’t fit into words. he holds onto these pictures he’s snapped, and throughout the journeys he’ll be taking them out to feel a little closer. ] And we’ll FaceTime when we can, again.

[He'll take one last screen capture of that loving smirk. Another for his photoalbum. It wasn't the same as having Eren with him, but it did help a lot.]

Yeah, of course. [And with a slight laugh] Now get going! You don't wanna be the guy that holds up camp.
